Dear and damn readers

This blog, created in 2013, was created with the noble intention of spreading all those rock and metal bands around the world that authorize the public download of their musical works. Until mid-2020 this blog made reviews, now it gives the freedom for each listener to rate what they like in the comments
however, musical references will come from here for later musical reviews on the blog mystiscio.blogspot.com

SCHERMANN - Black

in this musical production hard rock predominates despite the fact that its opening song sounds like some kind of alternative rock/pop, it is advisable not to judge this album according to the first song. "Haunt the dead" (where a cough is heard surely by mistake) marks the true beginning with a simple riff and perhaps this is the flag that carries the entire album, that is, melodies with distinguishable riffs and an easy drum rhythm. identify, where in addition, the singing is usually calm but with a fresh personality, in the same style is the following song "dustcrawler" which introduces a heavier first riff and a more complete melody with several moments, making this album entertaining without fall into monotony Unfortunately "New IP" is an unexpected turn that does not contribute to the album if it corresponds to the previous songs, although you can rescue the solos and the melody in the middle of that annoying riff with what seems like a digital instrument. Later "enforcer of karma" is shown as a sophisticated song by coupling an unusual percussion in rock, in this case some drums in the middle of a soft melody and a harmonic synchrony between voice and guitar sound, then "when the night falls" returns with the hard rock sound achieved thanks to the riff, although this song has a great resemblance to "haunt the dead" despite the fact that it has a different riff, different melody and a longer percussion base, often we hear "black fire" that is I could say that it is the song that stands up for Heavy Metal, although it goes without saying that the form of the song ruins the song, a voice without power or strength is noticeable, which is inconsistent with the powerful riff that is heard, we will move on later to "massive weather manipulation" that retains a lot of traditional heavy metal and perhaps eighties glam rock/metal but is still weak with respect to singing, in this case it sounds with an effect typical of alternative rock/pop that does not match the potential of the riff nor the melody, the penultimate song "tonight" is a subdued cut on the album whose second half introduces drum and drum percussion simultaneously while the electric guitar gradually plays. Finally the song "demon's gate" contains a bit of all the qualities from the previous songs, the softness, simple percussion, riffs and a relaxed song but with personality, although it lacks strength.

The album cover is the silhouette of a stain, perhaps suggesting a splash of blood, it is quite simple and its message is uncertain. The musical production is quite good in terms of sound, there is quality, but the cough of the second song detracts from the credibility of the entire album. Despite the fact that the voice has some qualities, I would recommend this album more for the harmony and melody of the songs that allow an understanding of their structure, ideal for appreciating the musical genres of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal.

  1. You wrote a review ! I can't believe it ? The feedback is highly appreciated.
Generally art has to speak for itself. If you have to explain why your song or lyrics is good, it's at least questionable. That said, please allow me to explain something about the album. It was made in 14 days. From scratch. No lyrics, no riffs. Nothing. And one self imposed rule was to finish a song in one go. In one night. Coming up with a riff. Turning that riff into a song. Record guitar and drums, add bass. Texture guitars. Let vocal lines come. Put words on them. Record them. Mixing, editing, structuring and finally mastering.
There is just no time for perfection. Sometimes it can take longer to write the lyrics or to nail the lead guitar and then I really have to focus on getting it finished before the sun rises.

And the reason why I think working fast and focused is beneficial to the result I'm aiming for, is freshness. To record a song while it is fun to play.
With my bands I have trimmed songs to perfection, but when we recorded it it did not feel fresh anymore. You can catch the best fish and have the best cook for it. When the fish is too old it won't be tasty. That says nothing about the quality of a song, but there are very few songs I really enjoy after hearing them a...don't know 20 (?) times. Even my absolute favorite songs. I enjoy the connected memories, but in the end it's sucked off.

Regarding the cough you said to be surely a mistake. Yes, it was no fake cough, but I chose not to delete it, beacuse behind the cough is a meaning.
There are a few places on the album where similar things can be heard. E.g. in the end of Enforcer of Karma. Where the initiated know what I'm talking about ;)

Again thank you for hearing and reviewing my album. That means a lot to me. And in spite of some harsh judgements, I got the overall impression you did enjoy it. Yeah, there are some flaws, but the fish is fresh.
